{happy new year} to do list: twenty-ten

so, just like everyone else, i want to eat better, get fit, blah blah blah..in addition to those, here are my top 5 things i'd like to accomplish this year:

1. go on an exotic vacation. whether it's to hawaii, aruba, or some other far away land (bora bora in the picture below) i'm going! sure, i'd love to go to europe, but i'm feeling this is this year for some fab beach and cabana time.

{photo from here}

2. get my dollars in check. sure we have a savings account, and yes we pay our bills on time and credit cards in full..i'm talking cd's people. stocks..you know...get serious about where my money is going..you never know when that big rainy day will come...

3. learn something new. i like having this as an ongoing 'to-do'. i had this one last year and it feels so good to continue my education..whether it is sewing, understanding the chemistry in cooking, or canning. i'm looking forward to whatever it is i might get my hands into this year...

4. plant a vegetable garden. now that we have a backyard, i can grow tomatoes again, but this year i want to do carrots and other veggies as well. i'd also like to learn to can a few of them for use in the winter months.

5. reduce the stress and continue to be optimistic. so this was an issue that bubbled up this past year. i was completely stressed out the point of insomnia and hallucinations...until my boss told me one day, "it's not cancer." this statement rings in my ears every time a little bump in the road comes up. it has helped me get thru the silly little problems and focus on life's more important things...i hope i continue remembering that if i mess up, or if things don't work out exactly how we want, it isn't cancer. no one is going to die. (well, unless i am driving like a maniac or something like that..but you know what i mean)

so wish me luck! i hope your to-do list includes some fun stuff you've always wanted to do and i hope you have the energy and the health to accomplish them all. happy new year everyone!

xoxo

{happy new year} to do list, past reviewed...

2009 has been such an amazing year for me. it definitely had it's crappy moments, but for the most part, it was fantastic! i got married to a brilliantly lovely man who has an equally brilliant lovely family..my career is going well, my health, for the most part, was on the up and up and i accomplished many of the goals i set out about this time last year:

2009 to do list:
1. pay more attention to my posture. ok. so..i did, or at least i thought i did this very well, but looking back at some of my wedding photos, i think i must have forgotten this during all the excitement. aw well.

(ack! why didn't someone tell me to stand up straight?!!!)

2. eat more leafy greens & cut down the sugar. i did this very well ..until recently. my sugar intake is thru the roof and i plan to get it back in check just after midnight. ;)

(mmm. smores. these were amazing)

3. turn off the tv. yes! i think we did this very well..we've been on hikes and now that we have a big back yard, we tend to that every now and then and we even went on a hot air balloon ride!..although when we discovered the 1st season of lost on dvd..we were hooked for 3 months straight. it was awesome. but now we wait for the final season just like the rest of you lost fans out there...can't wait!

4. learn something new. while i didn't learn to sew (as i've been threatening to do so for some time), i did learn how to knit. i'm still in the process of making my first scarf and i like it!

(ok. so this was a little wide i found out and just tore it all out and started over. it's much skinnier now) :)

5. write more handwritten notes. ok. so, this was kind of cheating. i had to write a bajillion thank you notes after the wedding. :) but! i did also write a bajillion christmas cards too... i think that counts.

6. go for a walk..or run. which i totally did for a week straight. and then i hurt my knees and refuse to run on pavement ever again. the pain was ridiculous. back to the treadmill for this cookie.

i wonder what next year will have in store for me?

{random} sore cheeks & high hopes

ok. so i haven't started getting up in the morning before work and taking a quick job around the city like i had hoped...but...i have been working out...for free. well. sort of. i mean..i pay for the cable that provides it...let me just get to the point..

on demand people. exercise tv.

that's right! there are a plethora of workout videos from abs to yoga to cardio-karaoke, tae bo, and even a few by jackie warner! you can work out in the comfort of your own home...any time you want. for basically free.

i've been doing a workout every day. yesterday, i did jackie's lower body workout that lasts about 20 minutes and let me tell you...but little booty muscles are so sore.

how are you getting in shape in this year?

{random} onward & upward..

i wasn't going to post my resolutions here this year...but then i figured...why not? i like reading others list..they tend to inspire..so hopefully you will take a little something away with my little list of "things to do" for 2009:

1. pay more attention to my posture. i notice i slouch more than i used to..not sure if it's because i'm in front of a computer all day, or maybe i'm surrounded by shorter people? at any rate, i really need to keep a straight spine, my shoulders back, and my head up...i think it makes a big difference in not only how i look, but how i feel about myself as well.

2. eat more leafy greens & cut down the sugar. i'm tired of being tired all the time and hopefully this will clear away the cobwebs.

3. turn off the tv. we've gotten into such a habit of zoning away the evenings by sitting in front of the boob tube that i don't know where the time has gone...or what i've done with it. i usually watch 2 episodes of friends as soon as i get home, but i can't tell you what they were about. that's an entire hour i've wasted without making a single memory. terrible.

4. learn something new. i've really enjoyed the diy projects i've taken on my with planning my wedding..i'd like to continue to create things, so learning how to sew or knit this year would be a fun thing for me.

5. write more handwritten notes. this one is kind of cheating..i already know i will be writing several thank you notes after the wedding has come and gone..but i would like to continue to just drop a little unexpected note in the mail every once in a while...nothing like getting a handwritten message amongst a pile of bills.

6. go for a walk..or run. i'd like to think i can get up an hour earlier before i normally do to go for a quick jog up and down the san fran hills...i can visualize it...but i'm afraid i wouldn't keep this resolution. i'm going to go ahead and keep it here...let's see if i can't work it out.

that about does it. i like my list this year...most everything is completely realistic and i believe that if i can incorporate at least one of these things as a life change...then i will have succeeded.

any resolutions you are making that you are extra excited about? or are you afraid you won't be able to keep them...?

{random} revisiting new years goals..

at the turn of the new year, i will have started this blog a year ago...and i started it off with my new years resolution...let's revisit:

✔ well, for about 6 months i did.

2. Take a yoga class. ya. i can't even touch my toes anymore. dammit.
✔ well, for about 6 months i did.

3. Learn how to sew. I want to make pretty pretty aprons to wear in the kitchen. i want to make flirty flirty skirts to wear to the park in spring. this will surely make me happy.
✔ i hand sewed my cake topper clothes...does that count?

4. Learn to make a pie completely from scratch. i got a rolling pin for christmas. i've always wanted one. i've always wanted to make pie dough...but am frightened. very, very frightened.
✔ yup. 4 successful and delicious pies. 2 cherry, 2 apple.

5. Drink more water. Eat more fruit. you get the idea. this is the "i want to be healthier goal"
✔ yup.

6. Laugh more. Cry less.
✔ yup. i think so.

7. Make a ton of new friends.
x err..not so much.

8. Read a new book every month. so. that's 12 books. i can do this.
✔ well...i read 6...but then came blogs and wedding magazines..

i think i did okay...as far as new years resolutions go...and hey ... there are still a few weeks left, how crazy would it be if i read 6 books before the year ended!

Starting Out the New Year with a Blog

Hi Everyone!

I have decided to start blogging (I can't believe I hadn't thought of this before). So, in spirit of the new year, I think I should start with a few goals to keep me on track:

1. Take a self defense class. Specifically: Krav Maga.

2. Take a yoga class. ya. i can't even touch my toes anymore. dammit.

3. Learn how to sew. I want to make pretty pretty aprons to wear in the kitchen. i want to make flirty flirty skirts to wear to the park in spring. this will surely make me happy.

4. Learn to make a pie completely from scratch. i got a rolling pin for christmas. i've always wanted one. i've always wanted to make pie dough...but am frightened. very, very frightened.

5. Drink more water. Eat more fruit. you get the idea. this is the "i want to be healthier goal"

6. Laugh more. Cry less.

7. Make a ton of new friends.

8. Read a new book every month. so. that's 12 books. i can do this.

9. Beat super mario galaxy on the wii. it's driving me crazy.

10. Fall in love all over again with my honey. :)

Happy New Year! XOXO!!
